Technique Solaire to build its first floating PV plant in Netherlands

Technique Solaire to build its first floating PV plant in Netherlands
  • 7 MWp project with an expected production of 6,4 GWh per year

  • Total production is equivalent to the consumption of 2.200 households

  • Second project for Technique Solaire in the Netherlands

  • In close collaboration with BillyBird Park Drakenrijk

Technique Solaire will build its first floating solar plant in Limburg, the Netherlands, at BillyBird Park Drakenrijk. The 7 MWp plant will cover 4,3 hectares (ha) of water to generate an expected 6,4 GWh of power throughout the year. It matches the consumption of 2.200 households. Construction will start in spring 2023.

BillyBird Park Drakenrijk offers recreational activities around small lakes. One of the lakes, adjacent to highway A73, is a 6,7 ha clean water reservoir that provides fresh water to the swimming lakes. BillyBird and Technique Solaire have investigated together whether this basin lake could also host solar panels.

Technique Solaire values the critical support received from the local municipality. Along with BillyBird, it was ensured that the solar park will be fully integrated in the surroundings. With its nature integration, the solar park contributes to the recreational value of BillyBird Park Drakenrijk.

Dick Teunis, co-founder of Technique Solaire Nederland: “ The development of a floating park was a logical step in our strategy to diversify our power plants. Our 7 MW project adds nature to the surroundings while providing power to 2.200 households. We expect to do many more floating parks and already have several new projects in development. “

The solar plant at BillyBird park Drakenrijk will be Technique Solaire’s second solar park in the Netherlands.
